Advisors

Sigma Alpha Iota has multiple advisors. The Faculty Advisor oversees all meetings of the Beta Epsilon chapter as well as serves as the faculty liasion between the University's administration and the chapter. The alumnae advisors serve as connections from the chapter to SAI Internationally.

Current advisors are: Dr. Mary Ellen Wylie, Rachel Maurer, and Rena Goss.



Dr. Mary Ellen Wylie - Faculty Advisor

Dr. Mary Ellen Wylie, MT-BC received her Bachelors of Music in music education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Masters and Doctorate in music education and music therapy, from the University of Kansas. She has worked as a music therapist with children with developmental disabilities and multiple handicaps; adults with mental handicaps; the elderly and terminally ill; and patients with medical conditions. She has given presentations at national, regional and state music therapy conferences and been published in the Journal of Music Therapy and Music Therapy Perspectives. She currently serves the American Music Therapy Association as Speaker of the Assembly of Delegates, a member of the Board of Directors, and a member of the Executive Committee.

Rachel Maurer - Alumnae Advisor

Rachel (Sammet) Maurer is an Evansville native and a 2005 graduate of the University of Evansville with degrees in Music Therapy and Music Education. She was initiated into the Beta Epsilon chapter in 2001 and served as president the 2004-2005 school year. Rachel joined the Evansville Alumni Chapter in 2006 and has been active in the chapter; she is currently serving as the Vice President of Program.

Rachel has her own music therapy private practice in Evansville and provides music therapy services to various populations including the terminally ill, the elderly, and individuals with developmental disabilities. Right now, she is working on a Master of Arts in Music Therapy through a distance program at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.

Rachel lives in Evansville with her husband, Eric, and their cat. In her spare time, Rachel enjoys reading, cooking, and travelling.

Rena Goss - Alumnae Advisor

Rena Glover Goss grew up in the small town of Adena in Eastern Ohio. She received a BS in Music Education from Muskingum College, New Concord, Ohio where she was initiated into the Alpha Gamma Chapter of SAI in 1957. Her Master of Music Education degree was completed at Indiana University in Bloomington. She was a member of the Bloomington Alumnae Chapter for 1 year.

Rena taught band, strings, choral and general music in the public schools in Ohio and Indiana. She taught music appreciation at Purdue and music education classes at Morris Harvey College (now the University of Charleston) in West Virginia. In 2001, Rena retired after 17 years with the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation.

Since 1975 Rena has been affiliated with the Evansville Alumnae Chapter serving in most of the chapter offices. From 2000 to 2006 she served the fraternity as the Beta A Province Officer. Rena plays sax in the Temple Airs Swing Band and clarinet in the Evansville Symphonic Band. She and her husband, Larry have a daughter and son and 6 grandchildren. Rena's hobbies away from music are gardening, genealogy, and travel.
